Compassionate End-of-Life Care

end of life careProviding Peace, Comfort, and Support When It Matters Most

At Whittington Veterinary Clinic, we understand how incredibly difficult it is to say goodbye to a beloved pet. When the time comes, our team is here to support you with compassion, dignity, and the utmost care for your pet—and for you.

How Do I Know When It’s Time?

One of the most difficult decisions a pet owner can face is knowing when to say goodbye. There’s no single moment that feels “right,” but there are signs that can help guide you —based on your pet’s comfort, quality of life, and overall well-being.

To support you during this emotional time, we’ve provided a Quality of Life Survey to help you assess your pet’s daily experiences. It’s not meant to make the decision for you—but to offer gentle guidance and clarity when you’re feeling uncertain.

How to Use This Survey:

survey

As you review the questions, you'll notice responses are grouped into five columns that reflect different stages of your pet's quality of life

If most of your answers fall in Columns 1 or 2, it may be time to consider euthanasia as a gentle and compassionate option.

If most of your answers are in Columns 4 or 5, your pet likely still has a good quality of life, though a veterinary assessment may be helpful to support their ongoing care.

This tool is here to help guide your decision, but you don't have to make it alone. If you're unsure or would like to talk through your answers, our team is here to support you with compassion and clarity.

Quality-of-Life Appointments

If you're still unsure whether it's time, we offer quality-of-life consultations. Our veterinarians will assess your pet’s condition and help guide you through this emotional decision with honesty, empathy, and medical insight.

A Peaceful, Private Space

We’ve created a private, comfortable room specifically for end-of-life services. Designed to feel quiet and peaceful, the room has its own separate exit to provide privacy during your most tender moments. You’re welcome to be present with your pet during the process, or we will take loving care of them on your behalf—whatever feels right for you.

What to Expect

We will walk you through each step of the process so you feel prepared and supported. Our team will:

  • Give you time to say goodbye
  • Provide gentle sedation to ensure your pet is calm and relaxed
  • Administer the final injection when you're ready
  • Answer any questions along the way

Aftercare Options

We offer private cremation services, and you may choose to receive your pet’s ashes back in a respectful urn or keepsake. Our team will guide you through all available options with sensitivity and care.

House Call Euthanasia

If you prefer to say goodbye at home, house call euthanasia is available for certain locations. Please call our clinic to discuss availability and scheduling.

You’re Not Alone

This is never an easy decision, but you don’t have to face it alone. We’re here to help you honor your pet’s life and give them the peaceful goodbye they deserve.
