Cooking for a Cause: Supporting Our Local Animal Rescue and Giving Back to the Community
Each year, our clinic proudly hosts the Anything Over Rice Cook-off to raise funds for Animal Aid of Vermilion Area, our local animal rescue. The proceeds provide vital medical care, spay and neuter services, food, shelter, and adoption support—giving animals in need a second chance at a safe, loving home.
In 2020, following the tragic loss of our beloved co-worker Kalix, Dr. Paul established the Kalix James Memorial Scholarship in his honour. To support this scholarship and keep Kalix’s memory alive, we began hosting an annual golf tournament. You can learn more on Kalix’s memorial page here.
Today, our annual cook-off and golf tournament raise funds not only for Animal Aid of Vermilion Area and the Kalix James Memorial Scholarship, but also for other local organizations in need, including the Vermilion Women’s Resource Center, God Made Self Driven Ministries, and Catholic Charities of Acadiana.
Since 2018, our annual cook-offs have raised over $150,000 to support AAVA and other community organizations. What began as a way to support rescue animals has blossomed into a heartfelt mission to honour Kalix’s legacy and give back to our community in meaningful ways.
Proud Partner in Local Education
Dr. Paul is committed to giving back to local schools through sponsorships and contributions to their fundraisers. He also enjoys educating students about veterinary medicine and regularly welcomes job shadowers into the clinic. As a proud supporter of Vermilion Charter School, Whittington Veterinary Clinic serves as the official veterinarian for their mascot, Maurice the Bulldog. See Maurice’s check-up at the clinic below:
Rooted in Faith, Committed to Care
Dr. Paul is active in his church and believes faith plays an important role in the mission of Whittington Veterinary Clinic. God’s presence is reflected in the way we care for animals, support our community, and treat each other with compassion. Dr. Paul, along with many team members, actively participates in the ACTS Retreat program, reflecting their shared commitment to faith, service, and community.

From Caring for Pets to Caring for the Planet
Whittington Veterinary Clinic proudly participated in Louisiana’s 2025 “Love the Boot Week,” a statewide initiative led by Keep Louisiana Beautiful that encourages communities to engage in litter removal and beautification efforts. Our team came together to clean up the area surrounding our clinic, demonstrating our commitment to a cleaner, healthier environment for both our neighbors and the animals we care for. By joining thousands of volunteers across the state, we contributed to a collective effort that removed over 500 tons of litter from Louisiana’s landscapes. We’re honored to be part of this movement and look forward to continuing our efforts to keep our community beautiful.
