Emergencies don’t follow a schedule—and when your cat is in distress, every moment counts. At Whittington Veterinary Clinic, we prioritize urgent cases and are fully equipped with modern diagnostic tools and a skilled, compassionate team to care for your cat during emergencies.

Emergency Hours:

Monday – Friday: 7:00 am to 5:00 pm
No appointment needed for emergencies during these hours.

If possible, have someone call us at (337) 893-8522 while you’re en route so we can be prepared for your arrival.

When Should You Bring Your Cat in for Emergency Care?

  • Trauma (bite wounds, lacerations, fractures, burns)
  • Hit by a car or fall from a height
  • Difficulty breathing, panting, or open-mouth breathing
  • Collapse or unresponsiveness
  • Seizures or sudden neurologic symptoms
  • Toxic ingestion (e.g., lilies, medications, chemicals)
  • Vomiting or diarrhea lasting more than 24 hours
  • Straining to urinate or inability to urinate
  • Heatstroke or sudden weakness
  • Signs of severe pain (crying, hiding, aggression)
  • Sudden behavioral changes or disorientation

What to Expect

Upon arrival, our team will assess your cat immediately and stabilize them as needed. We’ll clearly explain next steps and provide support throughout your visit, so you never feel alone in a stressful moment. When appropriate, we can also refer you to an emergency specialist or after-hours facility for continued care.

If your cat is seen at an emergency clinic, they will usually forward records to us automatically or upon request. Once received, our team will review the report and coordinate follow-up care to ensure a smooth transition back into our hands.
